Abby is a beautiful and very sweet tri color female. She will be 7 years young in November. She weighs about 50 lbs and is house-trained, crate-trained and leash trained. She likes riding in the car and quickly learns new routines in a foster home. She is not destructive and can be left alone in the home. Her original owner became very ill, and the family could not provide the exercise and stimulation an active middle aged English Setter needs. Her original owner hunted with her but we do not have information on her hunting skills or training. Her prey drive is low to medium and she is does not have a strong escape drive. Abby is a very affectionate girl. She loves people and belly rubs, she would let you rub her belly for hours. Abby would like a calm home with active people. She mainly wants to be where her people are, whether inside or outside. She loves her daily walks and gets excited when she sees the leash. Abby will need a medium size yard and was fine in a foster home with a 5-foot fence. She is not a candidate for an apartment. She is cat friendly with resident cats that are dog savvy and do not run/hide from her. Abby would be fine as an only dog and that would probably be her preference. She needs slow and supervised intros with other dogs and mainly does not like other dogs in her face and space. Abby has been handled by an experienced sporting dog person who was able to successfully integrate her with dog friendly dogs, so we know it can be done, but it would need to be done with patience and experience/guidance. She can be leash reactive to other dogs she sees on leash, mainly larger dogs, not smaller dogs. Her new family should be willing to work with this correctable behavior. She did not fence fight with dogs on the other side in a temp foster home. Children make Abby anxious so we are looking for a home that does not have kids. She was fine in a temp foster home with older teenage kids but she is not comfortable with kids 12 and younger so for that reason we are suggesting no kids. As long as the kids leave her alone and stay out of her space she is fine. Abby is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, fecal and heartworm negative, has had blood work done and is on heartworm preventative. She is currently located in Beaumont, CA. She is available to foster, adopt and foster-to-adopt.
